Mudslide Cocktail
The Mudslide cocktail is a rich creamy cocktail made from BaileysKahlua/Tia Maria, and vodka served very cold – and is very much like an alcoholic milkshake.
A mudslide is very similar to the ever-popular White Russian cocktail, just with the addition of more alcohol in the form of the Baileys Irish cream liqueur.
Baileys is a brand of Irish cream liqueur that is made with a blend of Irish whiskey, cream, and other flavours such as cocoa and vanilla. It is known for its creamy, smooth texture and rich, chocolatey flavour. Baileys is often served on its own as an after-dinner drink, but it is also used as an ingredient in cocktails and other mixed drinks. It is typically served chilled and can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed with coffee or other beverages.
The mudslide cocktail is best created with lots of ice and mixed well, sometimes it is topped with whipped cream, and dusted with cocoa giving this cocktail even more of a dessert feel – certainly one to avoid if you are counting calories! If you really want to add further delight, a straw wafer looks great as a garnish too – but not much use as a straw!

FAQ

What’s the difference between a White Russian and a mudslide?

A White Russian uses vodka as the spirit and a Mudslide cocktail uses Baileys Irish cream liqueur.

What is a mudslide drink made of?

A mudslide contains Kahlua coffee liqueur, Baileys Irish cream liqueur, cream and ice; all very tasty – but high in calories!

Mudslide cocktail origin

The Mudslide cocktail was invented by the Wreck Bar in Rum Point Club on the luxurious Grand Cayman Island. “We are the home of the mudslide,” says Kyle Creasap, the food and beverage director of Rum Point Club. “As legend has it, the Mudslide was invented here based on the fact that a customer came in and wanted to order a White Russian cocktail. And at that time, Wreck Bar was just a thatched hut. We did not have heavy cream,” he says. “But they had a bottle of Irish cream liqueur, and that’s how it first happened.”

Does a Mudslide cocktail contain chocolate?

Nope, despite the mud part making it sound like there is chocolate; the recipe contains none – although a hint of chocolate taste does come from the cocoa powder in the Baileys creme liqueur.

Is a Mudslide cocktail similar to a Screaming Orgasm cocktail?

Yes, the cocktails are very similar; except a Screaming Orgasm cocktail contains Amaretto (and each of the measures is slightly reduced accordingly).
