Whiskey mac cocktail
A Whisky Mac cocktail is an alcoholic drink made from equal parts of whisky and green ginger wine.
The drink was created by Colonel Hector MacDonald while serving in India around the 1900s. At that time, ginger was a popular remedy for digestive problems, cholera and even reduce inflammation. British soldiers preferred ginger wine which was soon complemented by whisky and resulted in the invention of Whisky Mac.
The Whisky Mac is also known as the favourite drink of golfers who seemingly drink it to warm themselves after a chilly round of golf.

Equipment

  • Old Fashioned glass

Ingredients 

  • 45 ml Scotch whisky
  • 45 ml green ginger wine

Instructions 

  • Fill an Old Fashioned glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour Scotch and green ginger wine, stir gently to combine.
  • Serve.
The first documented appearance of ginger wine was in London in 1740.
